A Sweet History, Decades in the Making
Our story began in the late 1970s, when a cozy donut shop called Dutch Treat opened in a Burnsville strip mall. In the early 1980s, it was renamed Donut Star — a name that has stuck for over four decades.
From the start, Donut Star has been about quality, tradition, and community. Customers lined up for classic old-fashioneds, and fresh bear claws — all made from scratch, the way donuts are meant to be.
In 2022, new owners took over the shop and gave it a fresh update:

In 2025, the team behind Tapestry Coffee became the new owners of Donut Star, bringing their passion for craft, hospitality, and community connection to the table. We’ve since expanded to a second location in downtown Lakeville, growing our reach in the South Metro — but staying true to our roots.
